Effectiveness Through Christ
Man looks for "things" to make him effective. This motivation is selfish. The servant of God needs only to serve by His grace to be effective. Man looks for the "Thing" that will really draw people to the ministry instead of to Jesus. The servant seeks the Lord on behalf of the people; his sacrifice and service - his nothingness - allows the Lord to be the effectiveness. When the pastor wants to be effective any other way than through the humility of service to Christ Jesus, he will have to look for things to make him effective since his carnal service impedes the blessings of humility.
"But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children. So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us." (Apostle Paul, A.D. 51)
No wonder Paul's ministry was so effective:)
