Hindering Spiritual Growth

The Jewish Lawyers were indicted by Jesus and found guilty of hindering those whom they lead from entering into the realm of understanding the truths of God's Word. How did they do this? Jesus said:

"Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered." Luke 11:52

They took away the key of knowledge. The key is the Word of God: "the fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge" (Proverbs 1:7). From God's mouth comes knowledge and understanding (Proverbs 2:6). The lawyers were withholding the Word of God from the people. Why? Because, they refused to enter in themselves! Instead of teaching the Word of God, they taught as doctrines the commandments of men! This is what the Catholic church did in the dark ages! This is why the Catholic Church strangled and then burned William Tyndale at the stake. This is why many "Christian" churches in America are entertaining the masses instead of teaching the the Word of God. If the "Christian" churches were teaching the Word of God in the power of the Holy Spirit, the result would be that the sheep would be seeking the face of the LORD and absolutely submitting to His lordship. This is not happening because the Christian church, like the Pharisees and the Catholic churches of old, has taken away the key of knowledge.
